ECMC Opens College Access Center in Minneapolis

June 10, 2019

Minneapolis—Educational Credit Management Corporation (ECMC) in collaboration with Urban Ventures, a nonprofit community organization providing cradle-to-career support for Minnesota youth and families, has opened a new college access center to help students of all ages prepare for college.

The College Place-Minnesota (TCP-Minnesota), located at Urban Ventures, provides free information and assistance through in-person, telephone and online support. It also offers presentations, workshops, and individual assistance completing applications for college admission, financial aid and scholarships.

"The College Place is an amazing resource for students, parents and families who have a desire to attend college or help a family member attend college but don't know how to start the process," said Mayra Medina Macias, director of TCP-Minnesota. "We understand the unique needs of different types of students—from the first-generation college student to the single parent starting down a new path."

The collaboration is made possible through the relationship ECMC has with Urban Ventures CEO Dave Hawn. Hawn is the former CEO of ECMC Group—ECMC's parent company.

"ECMC's vision directly supports the work we do, coordinating programs to support under-resourced students and families," said Hawn. "This partnership gives us the opportunity to offer additional resources that help Minnesota families navigate college planning and improve our communities in the process."

Additional College Planning Resources
ECMC provides additional free resources to help Minnesota students and their families plan for college:

  • Opportunities books—Free, downloadable workbooks that help students choose the right college and understand admission requirements and costs, as well as how to pay for college. Books are available in English and Spanish.
  • Financial Awareness Basics—Easy, digestible informational resources to help people take control of their finances.
  • College Resource Guides—From college planning tips for parents to earning college credit in high school, these guides offer a plethora of information.

TCP-Minnesota's main office is in The Hub at Urban Ventures, 3016 4th Ave. S. in Minneapolis. To set up an appointment or to schedule a presentation, please call The College Place at 612-455-4650 or email minnesotatcp@ecmc.org.

TCP-Minnesota is one of seven ECMC college access centers across the United States. Other locations include Northern California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon and Virginia.
